Civ 5: Some people are never pleased

 From Amazon UK reviews ...

"The worst "feature" however--or maybe it's a but since it certainly
bugs the daylights out of us--is the Steam virus that comes along with
the game and is mandatory for installing and playing Civ V. We very
quickly found that the one thing Steam does, is to prevent us from
playing the game against each other over our own network, since the
Steam Gestapo obliges us to log in and won't have the game running on
more than one computer at a time even from the same IP!"

... absolutely dreadfully, you have to buy more than a single copy to
have four different people playing it on four different computers.

You should have left this bit in the quote:

"Since playing each other was basically the point of purchasing the game
in the first place, Steam renders the whole thing useless, unless of course
we fall for the scheme and buy another copy. And guess what? We just don't
fancy lining the pockets of a company that figures we're software pirates
for using an honestly purchased game in a totally legit way."

It makes me lol, it's a waa waa rant from some tight arsed bastards. If
playing each other was really the point, surely common sense would suggest
each person has purchased a copy? Does the game description say any where
"Purchase one copy and have an unlimited number of your friends play for
free!"

It was nice how AOE1&2 and Starcraft would let you play on multiplayer with
a single copy. Shame such a feature never made into this millenium.

Not to mention the fact that you actually owned them.

And when you buy a movie for your family and friends to watch together
in your living room, you should have to buy a copy for each person.
That's just common sense. In general, when you put something in a box
and sell it with a price tag, it is the consumer's responsibility to
understand that they are only renting access rights. Nothing could be
more obvious.

Apples and Oranges.

Civ V is a fun game for all the family to gather round the monitor to watch
Dad play: "Wow Mom, 12 more turns and Dad can build a Phalanx!!!"

Or maybe not?

Well last time I went to the cinema I only got a single ticket and they
were most obliging when I pointed out I had a few friends and family who
I wanted to join me - after all that's the only reason I got the ticket
in the first place - and they said, that's fine come on in. The even
helped me set-up my cam-corder so I got to record the film for anyone
who I'd forgotten about ...

I don't mind sharing my Steam account with someone on the otherside of this planet...
Someone can play with my account while i'm sleeping, vice versa.
