Damn, even students in computer sciences (some : of the best students in my classes, when I was at UdeM) wouldn't dare to : changes their AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS or change the CMOS settings, afraid : that they would break their PC ! Frankly, I thought they were joking at : first, but they weren't ! So, if even third year students in CS are : sometimes afraid of making little modifications like that on a PC, do you : thing Joe User would install and OS ??? I know exactly what you mean. Fortunately, in *MY* CST class, at least half the class knows what to do at a DOS prompt (and it's NOT "win"!). Still, 80-90% of computer users don't even know what an autoexec.bat IS, let alone how to modify it. As for me... It may be old, clunky, and obsolete, but dammit it works alot better than OS/2 and Windoze! I'm sticking with good ole' DOS. :) Unless there's an OS where I can play *ALL* my games in 4 megs of RAM (given that I don't own any games that require more than 4 megs), I don't really want it. Why? Don't have the money to buy 4 megs of ram a year. So, to test a new o/s, here's what I'd do: 1) try to run Doom 2, WITH sound, SFX. If it works, go to step 2, if not, goto end. 2) try to run OMF 2097 WITH sound, SFX. If it works, go to step 3, if not, goto end. 3) try to run X-WING maximum detail with sound, SFX. If it works, buy the o/s, if not, goto end. :end return o/s to store, b!tch and moan to the retailer, and sue the manufacturer (lawsuit optional, b!tching and moaning essential). +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | _ | | _| |_ Nathan Strong (nst...@teleport.com) | ||_ _| http://www.teleport.com/~nstrong | | | | "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten| | | | Son, so that whoever believed in him would not perish but | | |_| have everlasting life." --John 3:16 | | | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
