Additionally, Interesting. I work in a store where we sell Seagate, Western Digital and Quantum drives. In terms of failures the Western Digital drives have been horrible. The Seagates are ok, while the Quantums have far and away the lowest failure rates. Older Quantum drives weren't as good, but their current Fireball drives at least seem to be very reliable. As for the Western Digitals, it's probably just a temporary setback, as they're usually reasonable. <snip> >purchase a new one. Therefore for my personal use, I rank them as follows: >(1) Western Digital >(2) Seagate >(3) Quantum >(4) Maxtor >(5) Digital >(6) Fujitsu >(7) Conner >(8) H-P Umm, I could be wrong, but as I recall the Seagate IDE drives and Conner drives are identicle, just packaged and labled differently. >Digital would be ranked much higher if they were not so expensive. I have only had one Western Digital drive, and it died in fairly short order. I've had 3 Qunatum drives, 2 of which are quite old (ie 5 to 7 years old), while the other is only sorta old (like 3 years old). All 3 drives are in perfect working order. I've also used Maxtor drives, and have had mixed experiences with them, although wasn't overly impressed by their reliability. Personnaly, if I were to buy a new drive now, all things being equal, I'd probably go for an IBM Deskstar drive. However, since the price of the Deskstar is rather high for my uses, I'm planning on getting a Quantum. I wouldn't even consider a Western Digital until they get over the problems they seem to be having at this time, and Seagate, Fujitsu and Conner are all kinda out of the running. I could go for a Maxtor I suppose, but I've had much better experience with Quantums, and from all reports I've seen, the Quantum drives are a little faster. Anthony Hill | Sig files? SIG FILES?!
