Sigh..... Neither of you are overly familar with how this internet thing works are you? Didn't think so. Thank god webtv is an alternative. Oh yes, a virus that is spread through e-mail. Uh...right. It was the *snicker* "good times" virus, right? ROTFLOL!!!! *wipes away tears of laughter* Do me a favor and read up on how e-mail messages are encoded and transmited. If you still don't have a clue afterwards, feel free to ask and I'll let you borrow one of mine. Let me explain, very slowly, why crossposting messages to groups that have no intrest in them is wrong. You might want to use *both* your brain cells, so be ready! The first issue is one of bandwidth. ALL isps, directly or indirectly, pay for the amount bandwidth used. Every single bloody packet transmited is money out of their pockets. This cost is passed along to the consumer. Even a class A provider is still leasing bandwidth from companies like Sprint who maintain the backbone. The next issue is one of storage. This stupid thread has increased number of messages stored per newsgroup by about 20 to 40 a day. Usenet is a rather unprofitable medium to begin with. For the most part (present company excluded, of course) usenet users skew to the higher end user, since the medium is not inherintley user friendly. If the cost of providing newsfeed rises, without a wider user base, than it will be unprofitable to continue. This is why newsgroups have rules, charaters and FAQs that prohibit binary file attachments, HTML posting, spam messages, and crossposted bullshit like this thread. Is it really that difficult to remove a group from the list you are sending to? I have made it a point to send a rather nice e-mail message to everyone who has spread this crap asking them to remove rec.games.computer.ultima.online from the thread. Thankfully, the majority of the people out there have had enough common courtesy and sense of nettiquite to do so. Some people, like you, have continued despite this simple request. (actually, you're the only one to have not done so). Since you refuse to listen to reason, or exhibit the smallest amount of nettiquite, I had no choice but to ask your ISP to force you to stop. Once again, there has not been a single poster from this newsgroup who has participated in this thread. There is no reason in the world why it should be posted in this group. If you wish, I will be happy to send you a copy of this newsgroups FAQ so you can see for yourself. Bob Roland
