Alright, I've recently acquired one of Jurgen's e-mails stating why Sakura Taisen cannot reach the #1 position from one of the ST fan sites (since I haven't recieved permission from Jurgen, I won't post the exact e-mail here). It seems as though Jurgen believes the reason ST has acquired so many votes is due to excessive lobbying by various sites. However, the site I contacted states that the only thing that his/her site, as well as most of the other ST fan sites has done is put a link and ask visitors to vote for the game, which, as the maintainer points out, Jurgen seemed to support in one of his newsletters. Jurgen said this in his 4/27/98 newsletter: "Support your favourite games! Use a button on your homepage, and make other people vote for your favourites! See: http://www.worldcharts.com/_button.html" The other thing to note is that even after going through the many algorithms used by World Charts ST came in first. Jurgen however states that he believes that this must be due to lobbies and simply excludes passed votes that would cause it to reach the #1 position. A few notes about Sakura Taisen, it is a somewhat obsure Japanese title and I wouldn't be surprised if anyone reading this ng knew about before I started this thread, I too learned that the game existed only about a month ago. However, I've learned that it is something of a cult-hit, in that it has a very dedicated and loyal fan base. Now I don't know whether it is simply the dedication of the fans, or through excessive lobbying, as Jurgen states, that this title has consistently reached a high position on the charts, but it is stated in the letter that because it is an obsure title that has little world-wide popularity it would be something of an embarrassment to have the game on top of the chart. Indeed, Jurgen seems to state that many publishers and developers ridicule the chart simply for having ST in the #2 or #3 position. The point here is, do you believe that, hypothetically if there were no chance of lobbying occuring, a title should be unable to reach the #1 postion because it is not a good seller, or few people know of it? Jurgen believes so, I do not, and I believe that it should be brought to the attention of ng that there is the possibility that a title's position may be limited by its popularity outside the chart, and this is , I believe, after the algorithms that World Charts use are applied. Also, I'd like to say one last thing just in case I get yet another accusatory reply, I've never played or voted for Sakura Taisen! Thank you:) ------------------------ Kangaemashou!
