So why can`t i identify the millenium starting at the end of this century? 2000ad to 3000ad. There i just did it and it is pretty clear to all what this means. You start at the start of the year 2000 and count all the years until you reach 1000 and there you have it 3000ad. > >> > bill newton wrote--- > By George, you've almost got it! > > Just try to remember that when a Millenium is 'born' it HAS, by > definition,to be in the past! > If the word born was exclusively past tense then you would have had to swap your "is `born`" for "was `born`" .The word born is what is known as a past particle and in no way exclusively implies past tense. > Therefore we can never 'enter' a 'new' Millenium as such, and we can > only identify a span of time (1000 years) as a Millenium when that > span > of time has passed! > Where the hell do you come up with stuff? 1000 years is 1000 years, past present or future. A millenium is a unit of time the same as a second ,a year or a week .It can be identified wherever and whenever the user wants. And what the hell is it with the capital M for millenium. Where not talking about the T.V. show here . I don`t know about you but i can enter a new 1000 year period whenever i feel like it. Just like i can enter a new hour or whatever. Example. It`s 11:56 PM where i am . Now, i will start a new thousand year period(or 20 minute period or whatever) at 11:58 PM. All i have to do is wait for my watch to start clocking the minute starting at 11:58 and there you go. I will have just entered a new millenium. I can validly call it a millenium and i can validly call it new because it is not as old as the one i identified earlier on in the day and it is a lot newer than the one someone identified way back in 992 (that one ended years ago, what a party that was hey!!) If anyone wants to discuss a millenium that ends at the same time as the 20th century. Then i guess it should really be reffered to as a calander millenium. Like a calander year as opposed to financial year or just a plain old year. > Now concentrate hard and I'm sure you'll grasp it this time;-) > -- > Bill Newton No relation to Izaac Newton thats for sure.
