Once you have the DLC, you can go to a specific place on the world map and then set up skirmish battles like earlier games in the series, or most other RTS for that matter. In that mode, all the units and civ advancements are available to you within the normal course of play. The DLC improves the game a lot, by removing the quest/mission structures of the base game which make it more of an MMORPG rather than an RTS. I hope the DLC is still free. The game runs fine in its original form too, installed through GFWL. -- Noman
