I always felt that the Settlers franchise, starting from Settlers III, was moving in the Warcraft direction in terms of play. Most especially when I had Settlers V (never tried the expansions). But I remember how similar it was with the peons, base building, and hero units. I was one who was disappointed with this change, because I liked the other Settlers games more (S2 is my favorite, but I like S3 & 4 also). I came away from Settlers V feeling like "I might as well just play Warcraft". Warcraft III is fun and cute in many ways, so I think a girl may like it. It's a pity there is no demo to try. There are four races, all of which are interesting in their own way (Human, Orc, Night Elf and Undead). There is alot of stuff in Warcraft III that was a step away from the challenge of micromanaging and mass clicking that was in Warcraft II and Starcraft. Like spellcaster units that can "auto-cast" spells. This can help save you alot of trouble micromanaging the battles. Warcraft III is not very system intensive, as with all Blizzard games, it will run very well on even old hardware. Most specifically, I think the big thing that will be similar to Settlers V is the hero units. These were a new thing for the Warcraft series. They have unique spells and abilities, and items you can find along the way which make them more powerful. A little bit of an RPG feel to that. Of course there are tons of play options. Single player campaigns for every race (and again in the expansion pack). Lan play vs each other, or vs AI's, and of course, play on Battle.net itself. Also, you can find battle packs of the game + expansion for relativley cheap these days. I guess all I can suggest is, here are links on Blizzards site for the game and expansion pack. These list game features, and some screenshots. Maybe you can see if it's up her alley, so to speak. http://www.blizzard.com/war3/ http://www.blizzard.com/war3x/ If not, I understand, and apologize. I'm just trying to help. I don't love Warcraft III, I was much more a Starcraft fan. I felt they had dumbed down alot of things from the Warcraft II / Starcraft days. But this is something that made the game more popular with more casual gamers. I do remember Settlers V (I had it about a month before selling it used). I thought it was very very much like Warcraft III at the time. So I thought this may be something you would enjoy.
