Most console gamers have a PC in their house, and most PCs come with a
DVD-R burner, which is all you need for the majority of PS2 games (very
few are dual layer discs.)

To use a copied game, you'll need a modded PS2. You can either buy a kit
to do this yourself, or even send the PS2 to someone who'll do the mod for
you. This violates your warranty and federal law, but let's not deal
with the details here.

If you have an older model PS2 that can support a hard drive, it's
possible to modify the PS2 to run games directly off the PS2. Not only
does this give you much better loading times, but allows you to copy a
game directly to the HDD - no PC necessary.

Acquiring PS2 games is easy as well. You can rent them from Blockbuster
or online services like Netflix. You can download them from the usual
sources on the internet. You can even buy copied games (look for
"backups")

About half of the people I know who have a PS2, have had theirs modded.
Note that this doesn't mean they're running pirated games. The PS2, like
all other consoles, will only play games for the country it was sold in.
There's a sizable sub-culture within console gamers who enjoy playing
games from other countries - especially Japan, which gets many more titles
than what you see in the US or Europe. However, the only way to play
these games is to either buy a console from each country you wish to
import from, or mod your console so it ignores the country check
altogether.

Well, ok, I know of a used bookstore that sells some used titles, but
nothing compared to the chain of EBGames/GameStop which are stuffed to the
gills with used console games, and DVDs. At some point, someone said it was
actually illegal to sell used PC software. I don't know if that's true or
not in the US.
