A rather sad state of affair, don't you think? I mean, name one other
industry where "Now, won't destroy your hardware!" is a successful sales
slogan?

To be brutally honest, it doesn't really matter what sorts of DRM or copy
protection is put on these things. People will still find a way to pirate
it, even if it's just for the sake of defeating the protection.

I have no problem with reasonable forms of protection, but when it gets to
be more of a pain just to USE the darn product, I'd rather do without.

The Movie, music, and assorted media chains would do best to learn this
lesson from the PC game industry. Treat your customers like *rap for too
long, and they'll leave. They may move to piracy, they may just read a
book, but either way, they won't be spending their money on this stuff
anymore.
