How can you say this, but also say you have no problems with budget
software releases?

I'll come right out and say it - 99% Of All Games Are Too Expensive.

You pay what, $40, $50 for an unfinished buggy game, then have to wait
weeks/months for the developer to patch it. True, sometimes the game is
still playable without the patch. Other times, however, the game won't
even load without a patch. Sometimes, it takes multiple patches, and by
that time, the first expansion pack is out.

You can do what you like, but you're crazy if you expect people to only
buy games at their full price, much less buy MULTIPLE versions. Budget
titles are great and all, but they usually don't come with any printed
documentation or other little extras the original package contained.

But, wouldn't buying budget titles damage the market since now I'm only
paying $10-20 for something that originally sold for $40-50 - and you
can't tell me that the developer is still getting the same amount of money
from both sales. And as for your idea of buying multiple versions or
copies of a game - forget it.

Look, I hate pirates as much as you do, but deep down, I know those folks
are going to pirate games NO MATTER WHAT. You could publish the world's
greatest game and sell it for $5/copy and I guarantee you'll find pirated
disks over in China, or find it splattered on the internet for download.

Piracy is a valid business concern, but lately I think companies are more
concered with protecting their games FROM LEGITIMATE USERS instead of
actually working to make a good product. What's worse is that the people
who are determined to pirate, aren't even affected. They'll simply
download the cracked ISO, or buy the game on a CDR for $3.

Can you imagine how many bugs or design issues could have been addressed
if, say, Ubisoft spent the money they used on Starforce licenses had been
spent on internal development?
