Microsoft is indeed making major inroads here. I saw Pitfall Harry running on Win95 and it was BETTER than the Sega version. I was floored at how well it ran. Microsoft did do a better job here in getting the word out on what it did. IBM did a great job too but Microsoft simply threw a lot more money at it and it shows. I liked the food at the hospitality suite better too! :) Though IBM has incredible desserts! IBM is showing off DIVE here as well though both DIVE and WinG simply make the respective OS allow DOS like hardware access. But right now, OS/2 has the lead in the high end gaming area. Number of multithreaded games for Windows (commercial): 0 Number coming soon (next 6 months): 0 Number of multithreaded commercial games for OS/2: 3 Galactic Civilizations MicroLearn game pack Simcity classic Number coming in the next 6 months: 3 Entrepreneur Avarice MicroLearn gamepack 2 Sure, there are games being ported to each platform (such as DOOM which now runs at least as well as the DOS version on OS/2 and Win95) but they are (sorry to say) single threaded games. Besides porting an existing game is not exactly a big deal. They are just part of the continuing marketing wars between IBM and Microsoft. By the time Windows95 ships, OS/2 will already have out on the market at least 3 original high end games written exclusively for an advanced OS: GalCiv, Entrepreneur, and Avarice which fill in 3 of the major niches (Strategy, Simulation, and Adventure). Like it or not, OS/2 is presently the premiere high end gaming platform. And I say this right from the convention where all the developers come: Game Developer's Conference.
