*PATHWAY* a map by Serpico at h044...@student.hu-berlin.de
Reviewed by the Quebec Dragon
DESCRIPTION : Medium multiplayer map of tough difficulty
# OF PLAYERS : 2 Human/Computers, 1 Computer
COMMENTS : It says in the description that this is supposed to be a very
balanced multiplayer map. Having played it as a duel, I would tend to
agree except for one little thing : the orange computer player although
not particularly strong could act as a *wildcard* depending on where
here he goes and who he attacks. The visuals were adequate but nothing
out of the ordinary. There was no attempt at a storyline anywhere. There
wasn't even a proper story-oriented intro or description. Still in
multiplayer maps, the strategic balance is more important than anything
and on that point it seems to deliver. The layout is a little
above-average and no obvious "bugs" were present. You won't be rushed in
the first 2 weeks so you'll also have a little time to build up but not
too much. I wonder why this scenario was rated at tough difficulty,
perhaps it was because of the wandering stacks (which are mostly random
but of suitable level for the reward). "Pathway" is a decent playable
duel multiplayer map that's probably more enjoyable against an equally
skilled human player than simply against the AI. Nothing particularly
special about it but it does its job well.
SOME TIPS : The first one reaching water might have a winning advantage
BUGS AND PROBLEMS : The Ultimate Artifact is fixed in one place with an
allowable radius of 0. This limits somewhat the replay value. The
description mentions blue and red, the human colors are blue and green.
COMPETITORS : Quebec Dragon as Blue Barbarian VS the Mausoleum as Green
Barbarian
RESULTS : The Quebec Dragon won in 49 days for 181 points and a rating
of War Troll at normal game difficulty.
OFFICIAL EXCUSE OF THE LOSER : "I made a tactical error when I purchased
the Pyramid in the second week,
inflicting a severe shortage of gold upon myself for the rest of the
game just for some dubious Cyclops. I also played far too conservatively
and while this strategy might have paid off in the long run, QD stormed
in way before I was ready and pulverized my carcass." - The Mausoleum
PROS : Balanced duel map with no big obvious problems ; orange computer
opponent provides a little unpredictability
CONS : No attempt at any story whatsoever ; no outstanding original
feature
