TNT has had driver problems from the getgo. IMHO it's an overated chipset
due to reliability concerns with the drivers. It's great to have the best
D3D performance but it really won't matter too much if you're continually
having 2D display problems due to driver concerns. I had asked Gateway
early this fall about why they weren't incorporating the TNT in their boxes
in view of its reputed performance specs and at the time their rep said they
were having driver problems with the chipset. I think the product was rushed
to market in order to get in for the holiday buying period. In order to
judge reliability of a chipset one should look at OEM volume. Once nVidia
starts dominating OEM sales like ATI then you can start relying on their
products. ATI may not have the flashiest chipsets all the time but their
products are reliable and their drivers rock solid that's why the pc
hardware manufacturers buy a lot of ATI cards.
