Iron Seed is a wonderful game. I find it rather difficult to describe, but highly I reccommend it. Be sure to have a copy of the manual, and experiment. There is a fairly steep learning-curve, but not rediculously so. I'd just found it a few days back, and I've been engrossed since. Ok, so the basic premise is that a group of rebels get into a load of mess back at home and the Government decides that enough is enough. After a massive witch-hunt, the gurrilla group figures it would be in everyone's best interest to pick-up camp and move - but to where? A ship is sent out by the group from our homeworld (Mars - Earth became a trash-heap long before anyone remembered it being a viable planet) to take a select group of rebel brains out-of-reach of the Law. The ship is attacked, disengages, shutsdown, and lo... the craft's computer switches back on to find... another place, a thousand years in the future. You must find a way to unite planets to combat an alien race (those who had attacked you), and find a way back home. You begin the game with your heavily damaged ship, a crew, and some spare parts. Interestingly enough... none of your crew are flesh and blood - every single one's nothing but organic fluid, and some highly-sophisticated computer programming/encoding. Lots to explore, much to learn, and an interesting story-scape. www.the-underdogs.org <--- perhaps one of the largest abandonware sites out there - you can download a copy of Iron Seed and the manual here.
