If you've been following the Huffman chronicles, it seems pretty apparent that he got his PhD from some kind of unaccredited (at least in US terms) school or diploma mill. I imagine he bothers with the charade because that fact embarrasses him. I agree that if a guy wants to use a title in the capacity that DS has, ie. for promotional/public relations and someone asks for verification of it, that guy ought to provide it if he doesn't want to suffer the resultant slings and arrows from tireless crusaders for truth (such as yourself, BH and FTHX). this.

First off, I have never called him Dr.
Second, there are plenty of people out there who MAY HAVE A FAKE PHD,
but I don't go out of my way to try and hunt them down. I don't believe
or disbelieve it, and either way, I don't give a shit. If you don't
believe him, then go ahead and don't believe him, I couldn't care less,
but putting it all over here is the wrong place.

That's the best line I've heard in months! Made this whole thread worth following--even though I've never played BC3d (Bc3k or whatever it is). I guess Derek Smart must be kinda like Ti (who did have PHD) or Do--except he's not waiting for a comet (but maybe his f followers are). I haven't heard about whether or not Dr. Smart (Maxwell Smart?) has won the Nobel Prize though.. In the middle of November 1996 Derek said that he would release THE proper BC3K that would be complete and playable by the end of November 1996. You are full of it and a liar along with Derek if you call THAT missing a release date instead of just an out right LIE! And what about the manual that was all done except for a minor formatting problem? It was a LIE not a missed release date. >Seems, if you have actually ever even touched this >game you keep talking about, that a person with programming talent like >Dr. Smart's could easily have a PhD. Oh, perhaps I'd mention the fact that before Derek's academic pursuits, he worked for the World Health Organization and helped to eradicate Small Pox in the '70s. For his selfless efforts, France awarded him with the Prix de Grandeur which he now keeps in a trophy case next to a gold-plated CD of his game. Naturally he moved on to work for the CDC and was sent to Papua New Guinea. Unfortunately, I believe this would be the place where he contracted Kuru.
