So, on my on-going quest to play my way through the "best" pc space games, I'm now well into X2 The threat. What I found lacking in Freespace, X2 has by the ton. I'm talking about depth. Not that depth is everything or everybody's cup of tea, but I did miss it a bit in Freespace beyond, the dogfighting - which in fairness was pretty great. X2 is going well, but one thing really winds me up - when you use the time acceleration facility (SETA?) touching any key cancels it, This would be a perfect time to look through the menus, and better understand the game - hell in Carrier Command people would moan about the delay between islands, but it was never a problem for me, I had my startegy map, resource map, priorities to assign Manta fighters and walrus assault vehicles to replace... why not in X2? Still aside from this minor grumble, it seems pretty cool, and to some extent, takes me back to the days of Elite.
