I see that GOG are selling Dark Star One for $4.99. Any views on the game? I'm still having a lot of fun with Edge of Chaos, so is there much similarity? Thanks.

It does strictly limit where you can go, you need to advance the plot to get a bigger engine with which you can reach further star systems. Upgrading your ship is also a big part of the game and it's done by finding specific artifacts inside asteroids which improbe areas of the ship you choose. Since the asteroid diving was rather dull I think they added an option where you can buy the artifacts from miners in a late patch. Combat is fairly simplistic as I recall, I got a lot of mileage out of invulnerable shields that lasted a short time. The plot is more cliched than original. Certainly worth $4.99 though.

I couldn't get beyond the comically bad voice acting but Eurogamer rates it and that's often good enough for me.
