Preview of Naumachia in this month's PC Gamer. Looks like a traditional Wing Commander-style space sim.

As a space sim fan, the death of the genre is truly sad. I can only look back with fondness now, at games like the Wing Commander series, Freespace 2, the I-War series, etc. This game shows little promise to offer whaat those games had because: 1. DX9 support in 2010. Really? Really? 2. No single player campaign (yet). SERIOUSLY? If I want a simple online mashup I will play a console. Why do people put Wing Commander, Freespace, and I-War up on a pedestal? Partly because of great single player campaigns. 3. No joystick support (yet). SERIOUSLY? The dumbing down of space and flight sims to exclusively support keyboard/mouse is pathetic. Again, the best games in the genre (see above, add many others, like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, etc.) all supported joysticks. Most support joysticks, throttle, and rudders. This is not a slam on Jonah for posting. It is more of a lament at the state of the genre. It would be nice if an A-list studio would make a space sim that supports DX10 or DX11, has an immersive single player campaign, and fully supports joystick/ru8dder/throttle. But evidently there is a better chance of aliens actually landing on earth and giving us space ships than of us making a decent, modern space sim.
