I-War on XP

I recently got a copy of I-War (dx), and am trying to run it on my
Windows XP PC. It appears to have installed fine. However, when I try
to run it I see the intro movies, then get an error along the lines of
"I-War Patch has encountered a problem and must close." I've googled
this and found a bunch of complicated (and often contradictory)
instructions. I can try to figure this out on my own, but it'd be a
lot easier to just be told the answer, so to speak. Therefore:

Has anyone here gotten I-War running on XP, which of the shortcuts did
you end up using to run it, what glide wrapper did you use, how did you
configure the wrapper, did you have to mess with your virtual memory,
and (last but not least) are there any questions I forgot to ask /
other info I should know about?

Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as I know, you have to go into DirextX (dxdiag) and disable
directdraw and/or direct3d from your video card. It should work then,
but isn't 100% stable...
