So, have I missed any good space games I'd like?

I asked for game recommendations in another thread, but either there
weren't any to give, or people missed it. I figured I'd try again, see
if I could get some feedback, even if it's just to say I've already
played everything I want to play.

I enjoy the spaceflight genre, jumping from star to star, shooting down
pirates, making my fortune... but I've played both good spacesim MMOs
(Jumpgate and EVE) and found something missing. That something is
story. I'm a sucker for elaborate missions, branching story options,
and accomplishing something more than a fat bank account; I played all
of the Wing Commander games and enjoyed games like Tachyon, TIE Fighter,
and Freespace.

I know some people out there are all about the trade routes, and I have
an idea of games I can play if I just want to get virtual cash, from
Elite to X3. Can anyone suggest good space games that have an actual
plot, though, preferably ones I haven't already played?

Well, it doesn't have branching story options, but I enjoyed Darkstar
One.

Haha userbase of 1,000 people. That wouldn't even pay the local
MickyD's drive up window guy's salary!

what the article ment to say is that they had 1,000 subscribers while
the online numbers are a lot lower than freelancer servers...

i'm excited about this game getting an update however, i didn't like
the way how the gameplay mechanics changed where it's not worth being
the bad guy to a point where cearbears and consensual PvPers only
exist. of course theres an opportunity to be a pirate but only in a
nanny way by stealing cargo but most of them don't get away with that
because their ships explode via cargo traps.

it's also too bad that there are no other new or upcoming space mmos
where players are only the pilot using twitch based controls in a 1st
person view.

Yeah, I want to buy that, but decided against doing so because of the
crappy copy-protection it uses. Oh well, at least I finally was able to
purchase Freespace 2... :D

Oh well, how's Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, I hear it's good?

Yeah, and there's a pretty good free-form mod being developed using
the EoC flux engine.
