A Tribute to XPACE - The New Frontier!

Xpace was a large-scale, PBEM space exploration and strategy game
developed in the late '90s and which, apparently, has been abandoned.
Potentially, it is a massive game since the universe can consist of up
to 50,000+ stars, and each star system can contain multiple planets! It
could almost be considered massively-multiplayer since (in theory) it
supports up to 200 players each of which may leave or join at any time!

About 4 years ago the web domain that offered this game was sold off to
a third party and the game developers seemed to disappear off the face
of the Earth. With no website and nowhere to download the game, it
slowly began to fade from memory.

Well, I though Xpace was a truly unique and amazing game. Groundbreaking
in several ways, actually. I was saddened by how it seemed to disappear
and how difficult it is to find players to participate with. So, I set
up my own website with a complete archive of the original Xpace
homepage. Check it out:

Xpace Archive

However, webhosting4free only allows files up to 1 MB in size. I've
since registered with a free file hosting service and plan to upload the
game file. Unfortunately, with my slow dial-up connection and a slow
host, it literally takes almost 2 hours to upload a measly 4MB file.
Last time I tried it stalled at about 90% done...

So, it seems I'll have to upload the file from a broadband connection in
town. Honest, I'll have the file ready to download in a day or two!

I got that uploaded today, just like I said. The links are now fixed on
the site and it seems to download fine. In addition, I did some
significant polishing on the site. That includes upgrades to graphics
and adding a page counter and some spiffy javascript animation.

The only thing missing now is a guestbook, so visitors can give feedback
about both the game and the site. Hopefully, that will be finished soon.

dude... you need a web hosting service that does not have excessive ads
and popups on it.

you can look for a friend to host your game for free, or you can try

I was going to look at it but the downloads dont seem to work yet. If I
liked it then I might be able to do alot for it such as free hosting and
maybe getting a new version marketed

Are you actually running the game or just hosting info about it?

When I clicked on the link, I got a german site. I don't speak German,
so I don't know what's on there. I'd be interested in a decent, free
MMO space 4X.
