The price is certainly right for Vegastrike. The biggest hurdle for me now a days is time to play any game. Morrowind is probably the last game I will ever spend so much time on just to get it to a fun state. I want to play a game and have fun, not take a second full time job just to figure out a game. And I notice if you go to the various game forums they are always populated by snotty myopic real-life losers who's lives have literally become that game. Nexus: The Jupiter Incident was that way for me. Far to complex to just sit down and play. You had to study it just to figure it out, and it was not fun. So with that in mind is Vegastrike worth playing. (Again, without it becoming a second job.) Thank you.

I had the same feeling about Nexus(played demo and read reviews), which is why I didn't buy it.....even when I saw it at a very reduced price at Frys. I haven't played VS for about 2 years, so I don't know what the latest version is like. When I was playing VS, I found it to provide just about the level of complexity and challenge that I'm most comfortable with these days. It's in the Privateer mode (in fact, there's even a Privateer-mod available which is a pretty fateful copy of the original....even using the original's base graphics). One thing: lots of TLC have gone into VS. The very ironic splash panels, replete with social commentary, that you randomly get on start-up, are an example. The VS game universe is HUGE.....I'm talking thousands of systems (it's like FFE in that regard). I still have a 4x4 ft. map I handmade of the game universe jumplanes.....and it's not even complete (seems like there's an infinite number of random-generated systems in the game). If you don't make such a map, you will simply get lost in the game universe. You'll keep meeting up with new alien races and new human factions...but you'll never be able to find your way back to where you started the game (when I played the in-game map is nested: click on one star and it opens up jump lines to 10 other stars, click on one of these and you get lines to even more star systems for each one. You just get....lost). If you like exploration, you'll love VS. Graphics are certainly not state-of-the-art, but are serviceable. You dock/land on bases/planets, get missions, etc. All very familiar stuff. I don't recall that there was any main plotline. I had a great ship when I stopped playing.....a real tank. Last time I tried it, I didn't much care for changes made to the map interface (liked the earlier versions better). I was lucky in that the pc I ran it on would run practically anything w/o a problem. Don't know about my current pc. The game is definitely clunky and has its share of glitches (open-source, garage-game from some Stanford grad students), but I have fond memories of it. . In fact,.......
