Hi, Please, before purchasing X3, take a LONG look at the forums on the site. I purchased my copy a couple of weeks ago and even after patch 1.2.01 it freezes, stutters etc etc. Although the tech support on the forums is encouraging, they all too often resort to telling people that they have a problem with their machine, rather than the game having any issues. Many people upgraded to 1.2.01, found it was much worse than 1.2 but then found, to their astonishment, that the 1.2 patch had been removed from the site ! So there's no going back for them then. There are SO many issues with the game that the cavalier attitude of releasing the game because the distributors HAD to release it is frustrating and annoying. One example is the manual; when a poster stated that there are many options in the manual that are not in the game, the response they got (to paraphrase) was "the manual was for X2 and we changed it a bit - stuff got taken out but we had already brought the manual out so its wrong now" (this is added to the fact there is no *newer* manual online (although there is of course a FAQ). Posters have complained about trade descriptions; that the product does not work as advertised. Many users have several high end games, have a fantastic gaming rig, and yet Egosoft are still saying they must have problems with their machine. I do believe, by patch 1.4 or so, that Egosoft will have produced a great game, like X2, that will be enjoyable and played by many - no issues there at all. However, the process of releaseing a substandard game because of all of the graphics issues and incorrect manual will not go unnoticed. Next time they release a game, if another space-sim is being offered by another company then I will buy the other one. Bring on ELITE 4 !!!

Thye deserver all the bad feedback and abuse they can get. I got baned off Egosoft forum for the 2nd time for speaking my mind. they don't like you sayin bad stuff about their game. They dont listen and they create pile sof shit yet again. Oh well maybe they will listen someday X10 anyone ? Yep second that brother. It's really got on my tits how they have the nerve to produce a game that is at the level it is at. I understand software is very complex (sheesh I am a developer myself) and I also understand that it is very difficult to take account of everyone's video cards/cpu combinations etc. However, it can't be sooo hard that it is impossible, because I have been able to run many games straight out of the box - such as HalfLife2, Quake4 etc. Jeez .... If you actually have the game what's your handle on the forums?

Yes, considering "their" previous posts. And I quote: "Its a pile of crap. Even if they patch it to 2.0 and beyond. Stuttered on me with ALL details on LOW." Wow. X3 must be shit. Alex/Kate said it was even with low details. But then: "X2 iam talking about. And if it still stutters on X3. Well that is beyond Bullshit." Ah, they were actually talking about X2. So X3 is shit because X2 didn't run well. Thank god we got that cleared up.

Mine runs well enough. 2.6 GHz P4, 1GB RAM, ATI 9800 Raedon Pro. Medium settings, no AA. lowest res (what is it.. 1280x1024 or so). It *is* obviously a buggy release, but I can see the potential. This is my first look at the X universe.. obviously a big Elite influence . (To be honest, I've only recently discovered the presence of this 'Elite' cult following... I used to play that game on me C-64). My biggest problem with this game is the voice acting and player models/avatars. The would have been far better off leaving it out entirely. I suppose it's probably not half as bad if played in it's native tounge, but the translators are BRUTAL. Leave out *all* that crap acting as far as I'm concerned.. my imagination can fill in the blanks far better than these C grade actors. I dunno.. it's far from 'crap' in my opinion, but then again, I'm not having too many actual game-play issues, other than the occasional choppy cut scene (which I'm quick on the trigger to escape out of anyways). It's really unfortunate that the acting/translation is SOOO bad, and the pretty much all of the organic models (the busts of the human pilots, aliens, etc) are borderline ridiculous, especially when compared with the outstanding detail and complexity of all the other in-game models (ships, stations, planets). The lack of a proper tutorial is a big hit against it as well. I dunno.. if you liked Elite, Privateer, and are the type more interested in building your own epic story (not following the cheeze script), then this one should be a hit. If only someone would do a complete re-recording of pretty much ALL the (English) voice acting...

Game seems to be an absolutely HUGE memory hog, I reckon most peoples stutters are down to having 512Mb or less. the game takes over 1Gb. Egosoft claim that the next patch will make it more memory efficient - I'm not going to hold my breath. Can't imagine why they need all that ram, lots of recent games run well with a much smaller memory footprint. Sloppy coding is my guess.
