Hi all,

I've been thinking about getting Homeworld 2. Recently saw a lot of posts
on this group about Homeworld 2. Seems to be scarce in places, but as I
live in the U.K., the game is still plentiful at budget prices at the
moment.

What put me off buying it is that Homeworld 2 isn't rated that high compared
to Homeworld 1:

Homeworld 2: 83% / 71%
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/homeworld2

Homeworld: 93% / 81%
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/homeworld

Homeworld Cataclysm: 89% / 100%
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/homeworldcataclysm

Overall opinion appears to have dropped in Homeworld 2.

In the grand scheme of things, is Homeworld 2 a good game to get given the
other games out there in the same genre at the moment?

Thanx.

I've only been playing long enough to get about half way through it so
I'm no expert. There are a few features that I prefer to the first
game though. First is that your capital ships have a limited number of
production/module/sensor slots. This means you need to be a bit more
selective on what you research and build. It also means you can
cripple enemy ships before destroying them.
Of course the ships also look better than the ones in the original HW
and when you complet all the objectives of a mission it automaticly
collects all of the remaining resources on the map.

In my opinion, the reason it get's lower review scores isn't that it's
a worse game, it's that Homeworld was the first of it's kind and it
had a good story.

As for the other space based RTS, the only others I'm aware of are
Hegemonia (not a bad game, but I prefer HW2), Nexus (that one I just
can't figure out), and O.R.B. (haven't tried that one yet)

All in all, I'd say Homeworld 2 is worthwhile at a budget price. (I'm
not really enough of a RTS fan to pay full price for any of them)

By the way, if you've got a broadband connection, there are demos for
HW2 and all the other space based RTS games I mentioned.
