>From www.planetfreelancer.com forums; read and (as did I), weep: Okay. In 2003, our PCs do not have 64K of RAM and a cassette tape drive, which is a good thing. They also do not have games like Sundog, which is not a good thing. Why is it so? http://www.forumplanet.com/3dactionplanet/lancer/topic.asp?fid=3180&tid=9865 94 SpaceCowboy In Reply To #1 ...This is the game I dreamed about when I was playing Sundog on an Apple IIe about fifteen years ago. Board Guest 1058640 In Reply To #8 SUNDOG! Now THERE'S a game that I've missed! I played Sundog until my eyes ached (what was it, six colors, including black?) Commodities trading, several solar systems, upgradable ship, once you were able to purchase a ground scanner you could land at cities OTHER than the starports. Then you could detach your cargo pod and drive it like a car to the exchange building to buy cargo. You could get a line on what was going on at the bars, rent a hotel room (to save the game) get mugged between the bars and the parked pod (not making that up. Fortunately, you could keep a nestegg in the various system banks!) You could send out an sos and be rescued by the local cops if the pirates disabled your ship. If you were rich, you could purchace a ride on a teleporter system to different planets to conduct business. Of course, you'd have to return later to your ship. I remember I once left my pod on a planet, then forgot where it was. I flew around for hours trying to find it again. You could even drive the pod over the continents to find other cities to trade with! And if I remember correctly (and I do) it was COMPLETELY JOYSTICK DRIVEN and the analogue joystick was TREATED LIKE A MODERN MOUSE! Yes, that's right boys and girls, if Microsoft and DA had wanted to, they could have mapped the joystick's position to a corresponding screen cursor position just like my old Apple ][e did, thereby pleasing both mouse players and joystick players at the same time! Y'know, my Apple was only 64k. That game could SO EASILY be ported to the Palm operating system if somebody could find the origional code and knew what they were doing. I'd pay $50 for THAT before I'd buy Freelancer again... --The Stryker Space Cowboy In Reply To #14 Sundog is definitely the ultimate. I hear people bitch about graphics. . . in Sundog, you were a white dot. Everyone else was a hollow dot. The problems with games these days is that developers are more worried about eye candy than content. Imagine the scope of Sundog. What game in the last 10 yeas has had that? Word is the original designer is working on a new version. You can find a copy of Sundog to play if you look hard enough. Try underdogs. I can't remember where I got mine from, but I still have it on the hard drive and still fire it up now and again.
