I played this game a long time ago, it had VGA graphics. It's like a
space colonization/conquest game. You take over planets and they
produce different kinds of spaceships based on (i think) your
technology level. The part I remember best is the battle screens. The
attacking army files in from the top of the screen in a snaking path
toward the bottom which is the planet surface. The defending army is
composed of turrets/shield generators etc on the bottom of the screen.
Each unit shoots a white dot at the other army every so many seconds,
with the stronger units shooting bigger dots and the weaker units
shooting smaller dots. Anyone ever played this? I thought it was pretty
fun and was wondering if it was still around or remade.

Another space game I liked (even more primitive) was a game that ran in
text mode (the good old 80x25). The playing field was a rectangular
field of periods and planets were represented by upper and lower case
letters. Each planet could make a number of fighters per turn, and was
more or less desirable depending on how productive it was. Planets were
different ANSI colors depending on ownership. When you sent a fleet to
a planet, it would be "in transit" for a number of turns depending on
distance. On the side of the map was a list of all the planets (a...z
etc) and their production and strength numbers. Play could be
multi-player, but you would have to leave the computer for someone else
to play since you are not supposed to be privvy to their planets' data.
Another fun game for its time.

Thanks in advance for anyone who reads my post. I haven't been on the
usenet in ages.
