What you have to do is hit f for flight lock so that you are getting the correct speed to catch the cargo. If that isn't toggled you could be going the wrong speed because it's moving aswell, for instance if you are going 2kps and it's doing 2 kps straight at you in a head on course, then the total relative speed is 4 kps :). But I could be totally wrong on that one, so take it with a grain of salt.
