I thought Pierre was American? Anyway, I certainly don't despise the French, it's apparent that some of them need a good kicking, but that's the same wherever you go. I've recently read two books by Frenchmen: 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly' by Jean-Dominique Bauby, a successful magazine editor who suffered a massive stroke and awoke from a coma with 'Locked-in Syndrome'. He was in possession of his full mental faculties but imprisoned in a totally inert body. The only movement he could make was to blink his left eye, and by doing so he painstakingly dictated this beautiful book, dying shortly after it's completion. And 'The Gate' by Francois Bizot, who was captured and tortured by the Khmer Rouge and then later became an intermediary in the stand-off at the French embassy. Anyone who thinks 'all Frenchmen are cowards' should either read these books, or more properly, study some accounts of the bravery of the French Resistance in WWII. >BTW, I had bangers, mash and peas tonight with two pints of Guinness in honor of >my special comrades. Lol! Well in 39 years of living in dear old blighty, that's a combination that my stomach couldn't handle. Sounds like something Lemming would enjoy though. br d
