Without prejudice. I know from the regular postings to this group that many people here are looking for something in the space-sim genre that gives them freedom to explore and enjoy an open system without linear restrictions. Now i'm going to cross the rubicon here and suggest the unthinkable: BCM. Before everyone laughs me off their christmas card list, I have a proposition. As most of you know, i've always thought this game had many of the elements that we look for in a space-sim, but it has always suffered from bad implementation and a plethora of bugs, however, with the latest patch, RC36 (and yes, i've lost count too bp!) it really seems to be largely stable. Now, the criticisms most people have with BCM is the steep learning curve, the difficulty of actually getting into the game (for those that say it's just plain boring, I won't try to convince otherwise), so I'd like to make an offer. Apparently, the game can be had for peanuts at various outlets, so if you fancy a punt, buy it, and i'll send you a ready made save game that will let you get straight into the nitty gritty of the play. I realise it's sort of cheating, but the thing is, once all the counter-intuitive, tedious building up of crew AI and craft enhancements are complete, this game provides an enormous amount of in depth play and opportunity. Yes, the first person stuff is crap, and yes, it still has many annoyances - the interface being the obvious one - but godammit, overall it really is a satisfying space romp, and allows you to do just whatever the hell you want, a virtue that is sadly missing from many of the games in this genre. So if you see it somewhere for 6 dollars or whatever it's reduced to, take a chance, and then email me for the Init save. Just stick it in the save directory and give it a whirl. It will give you the highest rank, loads of money and all the bells and whistles. Then get out there and see what you can do. I really think you'll be surprised at what it has to offer. It obviously can't compete with the likes of Freelancer for visuals and polish, but that's not really the point, it's immersiveness is second to none. If you think this is a pointless exercise, and that i'm talking out of my arse, then please direct your vitriol to Shingen, who's not so subtle arm twisting got me back into the bastard thing. I will of course, be receiving a kick-back percentage of every copy sold as a result of this offer from Derek, because i'm a worthless sock puppet with no mind of my own, who misses Daniel terribly. Thank you for your time. br d
