The big drawback to a mouse in Iwar was the lack of roll (bank) control. In Iwar your belly thrusters were more powerful than the other lateral ones. Couldn't never firgure out if that the case in IWar2 but I always played like it was. Also I'm probably the only person who does this, but the now (I believe) defunct Microsoft Strategic Commander is perfect for space games. I map the palm to strafe controls and the buttons to engine, targeting, and other stuff. It has really made combat in Freelancer feel more sim like as well.
