That's a retcon worthy of Star Trek in its least glorious moments. The simple fact is the people making the game thought that an airplane flight engine was more fun and easier to play, regardless of how little sense it made. "Slide" mode was an attempt to patch a lack of tactical options. >By >activating the slide mode you disable them and thus you fly newtonian. No, you don't. You coast in a perfectly straight line, unable to make course corrections - IIRC, turning off slide while turned would immediately send you off at full speed on your new heading, which is worse than useless and often fatal. Almost as fatal as staying in "slide" mode, which means that the baddies shooting at you hardly have to aim to hit. I never used it. The only case I can think of where it would be useful is to stay at afterburner speed for a long chase, but there aren't too many encounters where you need to do that. >The buttons to do so should be "Caps Lock" (works as long as you hold >it) and the button below ESC - I think that is the ~ on the US keyboard? >(turn off/on). > >-- >My mind works like lightning.
