Okay, I finally beat... well celeberated the finish of I-War, I'm now 
into Edge of Chaos. I looked at this game briefly a few years ago, but 
didn't have the opportunity to get very far.

Well, now I have, but I'm getting my bottom kicked (a lot).

I'm into Act 1, which is a sort of freeform part of the game where you 
do some pirating and build up your rep, before being asked to join one 
of the clans. I've been asked to pirate some military firearms from a 
transpot ship near a military base in a sort of sub-mission called Gun-
runner. I don't seem to dent the escorting cruisers before getting well 
and truly squashed. 

In general I can hold my own against one or two vessels of similar size 
to mine using the WASD keys to jink about, and I gather later in the 
game its possible to upgrade these thrusters and your ship in general, 
but at this point, I'm getting a bit tired of restarting the mission 
over and over after getting blatted.

I thought having completed I-War things would be a bit more 
straightforward.

Any advice - apart from getting a life, obviously.  :)
