I've been playing X3 for a while and have a couple of traders trying
to make money for me.
One of them seems to have quite a death wish though. I leave the game
running when I go to bed and he's dead by the next morning. (about 7
hrs)
I reload the last save and leave it running when I go to work and he's
dead by the time I get home. (about 11 hrs)

He seems to want to kill himself within an hour of my current save no
matter what I tell him to do. This morning I told him to sector trade
in Argon Prime. Within 10 seconds he'd jumped there and started
looking for trade opportunities. When I got home there was a message
that the ship was destroyed in a Xenon sector an 40 minutes after he
started his day of sector trading.

Even when he escapes an attack he goes right back to the same system
to get destroyed within 10 minutes. (according to the message logs)

I was wondering, is there any way to tell him to avoid certain
sectors?
Is there any way to curb his death wish?
Is there any way to flush him out an airlock and give him what he
wants without costing me a ship? (there really should be an option to
space imcompetent employees in X4)

I've been hovering ato about 20 mil for about a week. He once got me
up to 25 mil before he offed himself. I'm still kicking myself for not
taking the money and letting him go.
