The Battlestar Galactica mod/total conversion of Freespace 2 now has a
stand-alone demo available for download. (380MB) You don't need
Freespace 2 installed to play the demo. There's a Mac version also
available and a Linux version shortly forthcoming.

It's a pretty impressive mod; artwork's very nice, and the sound/VO is
surprisingly top-notch for a mod project. The flight engine
incorporates some newtonian flight characteristics. Flying a Mark VII
Viper feels kinda like I-War's remote fighters- but not as wild and
hard to control. Three missions in the demo, and I still haven't been
able to complete the last one after a half-dozen tries.

It's worth a look. The chances of getting an actual Battlestar space-
sim nowadays are slim and none, but this project seems to be well on
the right track.
