There was a TV movie produced by Fox, in 1996 IIRC, which started Paul McGann as the Doctor. That was the first new piece of "Doctor Who" in a decade or so. (not counting books and audio series). It just started back up again last year on the BBC, with a new Doctor (Christopher Eccelston). He was already replaced a year later by David Tennant, who is the current Doctor. It's going pretty strong and has been commisioned for a new series (the 3rd of the comeback) next year. SCI-FI has only shown the first comeback season, the 2005 season with Eccelston. But they will probably pick up the next series that just finished showing in the UK about 2 weeks ago. You can see more about the new series on the official BBC site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/
