So in a movie with insane space-faring cannibals, intergalactic
mind-control, intergalactic space travel, a near-omniscient villian,
and other things that River turned out to be a human fighting machine
was the only thing you had trouble believing?

And you even state that replacing something in the realm of the
physical (martial arts & extreme fighting) with something from the
realm of the supernatural (ESP, telekinesis, etc.) would make the
movie more believable for you?

Ummm...k.
