Wizardry 7: kill 'beast of 1000 eyes'?

I heard that this is the most difficult combat in Wizardry 7. Is there
any one out there who had killed this beast? If so, would you mind sharing
the experience with me? I found the fire spell has only limited effect on
this beast. The water spell ( ice ) sometimes has a little effect. What
about the other? *silence* seems useless. *anti-magic* has about 10-20%
chance. *Killing* only take about 300-400 hp from it. I suspect there is
any good way to kill it. I saw somebody was talking about this about 3-4
months ago. I wasn't worry about this because I was only in the beginning
of the game. Now, it is my problem. Anyone care to share his ( her ) own
experience.
Li
PS: Here is the status of my party:
1) Ninja, level 27, armor about -19, use *light sword* & sai.
2) Ninja, level 26, armor about -19, use sword ( forget ) & rod of sprite.
3) Ninja, level 27, armor about -19, use sword ( forget ) & war... ( sword
).
4) Lord, level 27, armor about -12, use *avenger* & shield.
5) bard, level 27, armor about -3, use *Cat of nine tail* & *Pandora wand*.
6) Lord, level 27, armor about -9, use *Great Bow* & *Peacemaker*.
Is this kind of party still too weak? Please comment.

Please comment. ugh i remember this fight. it was a far cry from cake. what i did was throw tons of cloud spells at it. surprisingly, draining cloud was a very good one, as it always worked, but, i couldnt figure out what it did. another goodie was firestorm and acid bomb. basically, any of the cloud spells are your best bet. i had all of my party hide every stinking round of combat and conjured evil nasties that took care of it for the most part. then, i jumped in with my ninja using twin fists of doom (well, he did like 30 damage with each of his four attacks of 4 swings or so), and my samurai using muramasa (actually, not that good of a weapon. did anyone figure out its special power?) and pandora wand, my lord with light sword and diamond eyes, and my valkyrie using maenads lance (what was that one's special power? anyone know?) my spellcasters kept lobbing armor shield and other nonsense things on my party to try (in vain) to protect them. i had 2 people die in that combat, but it was worth it as far as i remember. none of the other monsters are NEARLY as tough. the others are very easy, the beast from nine hells is simple: hide and lob cloud spells (that poison gas cloud is ESPECIALLY good, as if it works, it drains more than 100 hits in a round when cast at REALLY high level). the end guy (that dark savant character) was a wimpy sack of protoplasm in comparison to the 1000 eyes. oh yeah, and save before opening each chest. if you dont like what you got, then reload. but no, there is no real good way of killing the 1000 eyes goob. if you are hidden, it usually does not do the death killer mondo party screwer spell.(which happens to be a higher than 7th level psionic version of prismic missile, dazzling lights, i think it was.) perhaps having psionic protection may help some more., i dunn. try magic screens, they sometimes worked. i remember getting a spell nailed at me which the magic screen ""REDUCED" and my character still died. silly i guess. enough for now.. Please comment. There is no way you'll kill it with a party at that level. I suggest going into the dungeon and finding certain intersection where an encounter will occurr *every* time you enter the square. There is only one in that dungeon that I am aware of. Anyway, keep entering the square and knock off the demons that attack you until you get another 10 levels or so. Then you can try the beast. Here are a few hints. Try to outfit everyone with bat necklaces, they provide 50% resistance vs. light spells (ie the dazzling ligts mr. eye fires at you), superman, haste and bless all your fighters, summon a monster (good idea to do this as soon as possible, just so he has another target besides your party), and have a good supply of healing & curing spells on hand. If that doesn't work, build up a few more levels, 'cause this guy is NOT going down easily (the hardest fight in the whole game). Good luck, you'll need it. :) --Andrew Luyt P.S. If all else fails, you can always hex edit your savegames. :)

Please comment. I've managed to kill it twice. Usually kills most of my party. Last time I did it I had: Ninja, w/ light sword, pandoras wand Lord, w/ excaliber Samurai w/ murasma blade and wakazashi+1 2 monks w/ Zatochi Bo's 1 Monk w/ elven bow Basically, I cast Enchanted blade, armorplate and magic screen before I go in. When inside, I cast superman on everyone, an armormelt, firestorm, poison gas and create life (create life will actuaaly give a monster that can hurt it, unlike conjuration). Then I start to hack. Sometimes I'll hide a player and they won't be affected by the dazzling lights. This way, I can cast some spells (i.e. stone to flesh, sane mind). I'd also say my characters were about level 30. This really takes patience. Jeff

My tactics were pretty similar to those posted, with lots of fire shield spells and the like. Two characters died, but that looks pretty standard. I had more trouble with the super-rattkin (fiend of 9 worlds? It's been awhile) than the Beast. Cloud spells didn't work on the Beast very well for me, but summoning a Godzilli worked well as a distraction. Derek

It was pretty easy to find the weakiness of this one. It can not be hurt by any spell ( as I remember ). BUT, you can use the 'armormelt' on it. Once you summon another monster like 'Godzilli', you can hind all of your party member and use hit and run skill ( hit, hind, hit, hind, ... ). I found it was pretty easy to kill it this way. When I post the original post, I thought someone could kill the 'beast of 1000 eyes' without losing any party member. If this is the normal situation, two members die, I thought I could deal with it. Thanks for your information.

Equipping objects that give you protection from Light is some help against the Dazzling Lights. (Bat necklace or a couple of others.) Whichever Cloud spell causes Nausea is helpful; that does affect the Beast sometimes, and causes it to skip turns. Summon a monster to help out; this will not do much damage to the Beast, but is important because sometimes the Beast will attack it instead of you. Hiding in Shadows seems to be pretty useless. I recommend a higher level party, also that you boost your attributes to 20 where possible (buy Ankhs from Ke-Li). A couple of characters did die or get stoned along the way, but since all my characters could cast the high level healing spells (HIGHLY recommended) everybody was more or less OK again when the beasts finally died. Attack with Swing or Thrust rather than Melee, as chances to connect with Melee are close to 0.
