I've been rummaging around the corners of my Windows 7 & XP.
@@@
Recent troubles with Firefox required me to research all the Add-Ons.

JAVA ....I Don't need it ???!!!
There are these Windows apps / progs that pop up from time to time to
require updating.
SHOCKWAVE FLASH seems to pop up every few weeks - I really use Internet
Video streaming
so OK - no questions about what this update is about.
and NO! I do not want to install 'FREE' Mc Fee Ant Virus thing or the ASK
toolbar.
But FLASH has a nasty tendency tendency to also leave older versions
confusing the Browser.

Along the same lines I have accepted JAVA updates for years
& I now realize its almost entirely unnecessary .
Uninstalled & happily searched & deleted the leftover JAVA & SUN folders.
That's a month back & no sign of missing it.

NVIDIA - now here is a nasty one.
Do check this one out.
If you have or ever had NVIDIA graphics on Your Windows (any version)
& no doubt dutifully installed new drivers regularly you might not have
noticed
it leaves all the older stuff uninstalled.
It often amounts to many Giga Bytes.
See here:
http://www.gameplayinside.com/optimize/cleaning-up-old-nvidia-driver-files-to-save-disk-space/

All the big Corps- INTEL - NVIDIA - ATI have greatly increased the amount
of 'extras'
they include / hide / manipulate us into installing .

I have a ATI card on one machine & NVIDIA on another.
I used to do Driver Updates routinely just clicking the 'Express Install'
NO more. Select 'Custom install' & see the extras stuffed in there .

NVIDIA has 3D drivers . Both have The SDK files " Software Developer Kit "
for developers
Audio drivers that want to send signals down HDMI Monitor cable
& add another set (or 2) of devices to Windows Volume control.

INTEL is the worst of the Big Names . Forcing specialist utilities at every
body
. MEI "Management Engine Driver"
@"The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the
host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware."@
As far as I can tell exists to provide Remote Desktop features to a few
Laptops Models - which appear to now be discontinued.
& only for Intel Motherboard's (not just there Chipset's - only the whole
board ones)
Much the same with there RST " Intel rapid storage technology". That's
effectively obsolete.
AND we do NOT need there USB 3 driver to get USB 3 performance.

Most users have Intel Chipset's on the Motherboard & need there INF files .
Intel's Disc drivers are good & offer an alternative to Microsoft's default
ones.
but trying to get & install them with out acquiring the specialist obsolete
junk is near impossible.
http://www.win-raid.com/t11f23-Modded-Intel-AHCI-and-RAID-Drivers.html
Has lots of Intel Disc Drivers stuff inc. AHCI for Windows XP.

Anti Aliasing ? that AA graphics setting that comes in sooo many versions &
has a
considerable performance hit.
Do we actually need it at all any more ?? because of increased use of higher
resolutions ?

I haven't been following this thread, so I don't know if it's already
been mentioned, but what in the world are you doing with Windows XP
and 7 in the year 2015?

Windows 8 has Refresh and Reset features which would solve issues of
polluted machines.

Either that or you could just quit running warez :)

Windows 8 was released in October 2012 and is already being replaced
by Windows 10 at that time this year. That turnaround puts it
neck-and-neck with ME as Microsofts biggest blunder.

If you got it bundled on a system, I guess you deal with it (HP
offered 7 again after 8's horrible reception), but only idiots
willingly chose it over Windows 7/64.

No you clearly have not.
Go & read my OP please.

And no doubt you clean out the junk from NVIDIA folders.
And are maybe one of the few people ever who understands INTEL's MEI
"Management Engine Driver"
& why the Hell it tries to get on every Computer.
Windows 8 won't.

Trimble try to understand that when a message consists of bad
formatting such as random capitalization of terms, random line break
lengths, repeating clusters of exagerated punctuation, inappropriate
usage of special characters like @ signs all over the place, it's hard
for the average busy person to get excited and inspired to read
through the entire message once, much less twice.

You were complaining about a number of things *other than* just Nvidia
related clutter in your original post that would be solved by my
suggestion, and only a few weeks back you were talking about needing
to completely reformat and reinstall your rigs every so often because
they get so cluttered and misconfigured so quickly, for which my
suggestions also offers a solution.

I'm not trying to twist your arm to actually do it, I'm just letting
you know a better solution is out there.

My previous gaming rig has gone more than six years without a reformat
or reinstall, and that was a system that had been migrated from Vista
to Win7 to Win8 to Win8.1. It has had terabytes upon terabytes of
shit installed and uninstalled on and off over the years. It's still
running today and is still as fast and as stable as when I purchased
it in 2009. One of the keys to a trouble-free system is to not
install illegal/cracked software. I don't really mind if people
insist on screwing up their machines, then blaming the OS vendor or
software companies for their woes, but does it make me evil that I
feel compelled to at least offer them the chance to learn about a
solution to their problems?

If you devalue your own time enough to install cracked warez in the
first place, the Reset/Refresh feature I mentioned in Windows 8x would
be invaluable to you.

As far as Intel MEI and what it is, here is some reading for you. Hope
it helps:

I have done this in the past also (amd user now), and there was another
how-to on how to clean up a windows folder that had many old .scv (or
somesuch) files hanging around. That freed up quite a bit also.
