Got Email around 2300 UTC last night (the 4th) announcing another ESO Beta
weekend.
<<<<"Friday, February 7th at 12:00PM EST until Monday, February 10th at
11:59PM EST.
You'll be able to play any characters you created during the last test,
and they'll all be available again when we send you an invitation to our
next test.">>>
Well isn't that nice of 'Them'.
If I have an invite I guess most of the World does - I rarely get these
things.
I'm not to certain just who 'Them' are.
Bethesda ? or the Zenimax Online on the downloaded folder name?
The game folder is just under 30 GB & this latest Patch has taken my 750 kbs
download
about 3 1/2 hours in addition to what I had from the Last Beta.
Its made up of some 8 sections of varying sizes.
The available disc space needs to be 50GB to allow for workspace as it
downloads.

Well I don't know ?
MUST NOT talk about it !! (super scary enormously long Eula)
In a sense I don't need to make a buy or not decision as the selling method
is impossible for me.
We have to buy the Game at full price for a April 4 launch - that includes
30 day play.
Its all & only Online - no sign of any Offline single Player Mode.
Then to continue its subscription of $14.99 USD EVERY MONTH !
There is no way I want this . And the Internet is full of people who think
its unworkable
I play a game when I want to which after the initial enthusiasm means a few
hours
here & there maybe with months of inactivity .
'They' are expecting a continuous commitment I will not want to play to.
If it could be something like "A Dollar a day to Play for a Day....come &
go when you want
with your easy-use Elder Scrolls Online Happy-Fun Account" ...well maybe.
The collective Net opinion is that it ain't going to work & the game will be
Free To Play within months.
&/ or 'They' will be out of business after a reported $200 million
investment in ESO

I'm a good EULA respecting Bunny (except for M/S's)
so can't even say Lord of The Rings Online with glitter n gloss
but there are a number of full reviews of the Beta around.

It's personally not my cup of tea, but history has shown that if the game appeals enough, and to a large enough audience, getting 15 bucks a month from players isn't a problem. At the same time there are plenty of MMORPG's that tried same and failed. Sometimes they fall back to a free to play models and monetize it that way. I'm interested enough to give this one a shot, but no MMORPG has been successful at extracting a monthly fee from me to date. Sugar babies, well they are a different story.

Bored, bored & feel I've seen all it has to offer after just 4 evenings.
This Beta thing is a very effective way to sell the thing.
The occasional few days of play keeps interest & expectations up.
The invitation system makes people feel special (even when there hundreds of
1000's of 'em).

Yes I agree with all of that Xocyll
But - trying to put all thoughts of the Elder Scrolls series to the side -
& just judge objectively on what's there.
I can forgive the AI behaviour on the grounds "its a Beta - it'll get
better"
& the other things that aren't working yet.
# Can't trade with individuals with out game freezing.
# Next to nothing to pick up or out of defeated foes.
Bashing endless Skeletal Warriors for the 1 piece of gold is Boring.
# No going where I want- its NOT open world.
Empty no fun to explore world.
('They' better had change that)
But the repetitive, petty, samey nature of the Quests - find 3 of that to
put on
3 of those so this door opens so you can do next to nothing & finish the
quest...
etc., is RPG Adventure for small children & must be the way the complete
game is going to be.
I have no real sense of of MMO . The other human controlled players just
rush past .
Its feels like a well made, but ordinary single player action game with a
little bit o RPG'ing.
The combats pretty good .- much more satisfying than in likes of similar
Lord of the Rings Online -
50% plus of all these NPC's & PC's are shapely young Women with perky Bums
n Bosoms
- all white European !!!
Guess it really needs to be played with friends in a group.
Right now I have it in a Window & drag it around Desktop to poke at while
doing other things.

This is odd. You act as though you'd never heard of MMORPGs before.

For a decent MMORPG, try The Secret World. Doesn't treat you like a 10 year old, no subscription fees and one of the more enjoyable ones I've tried.

I should have added -- if you see lukewarm reviews from around the time of game's release, keep in mind most of those scores came in when they were charging $15 per month (and even then it was still well received).

Sorry I'm so sour & moany about ESO
I thank a lot of my reaction is from having played Lord of The Rings Online
where I became fed up sooner rather than later.
& this ESO is virtually the same as LotRO with improved graphics & combat --
& of cause that financial outlay.
"The Secret World" Hmmm... thanks Rin...I go forth to examine.

Don't think I'll ever try these online rpgs, but did read a recent
review on RPS or somesuch, saying the same thing, that it was good stuff.

This one kept me interested longer than most, partially because the immersiveness of the world and the fact that it's challenging to create that immersion with "our earth, today" as a setting. When creating games involving spaceships and aliens, and likewise in fantasy settings, you have science fiction or medieval environments that have been defined already by other games and movies a thousand times over. In a horror setting that's based on our earth in today's time, you have the opportunity to bring whatever element you want (sort of a sci-fi horror element in this case) into a realm that a typical adult can relate to. I think they did that pretty well -- the monsters and quests of course are not realistic but the world that surrounds it all is enough to pull you in. As I said, this entire genre of gaming is not something I would spend hundreds of hours on but this is the only MMORPG I actually left installed so I could go back and play when I wanted a MMORPG fix. I think it it also draws a better calibur (more mature) players than games involving aliens or d&d settings, at least I never saw anything too silly, only folks cooperating.
