Anyone playing Path of Exile?

I've been playing it a bit on an off, it's not bad as a D2 clone.

I don't really like the currency system so far, I've no idea what I should be doing, and there are about 20 different types of 'currency'. It'd be nice if there was at least money, although if I remember D2, money wasn't really worth much of anything. I really hate trading f2f even virtually, and never really did that in D2. It's making me miss the D3 auction house. Although that was a nightmare just through the amount of time I spent there instead of playing.

I've had some trouble figuring out the build path to take, and on about my 4th character following a 'newbie' ground slam build which I seem to at least be able to follow as compared to other builds I've attempted to follow so far. I generally prefer ranged/magic-user types though, so I'm not sure about it.

The actually game play is pretty simple so far though, my slammer is 24 at the moment in act 2. I die quite a bit, but I've taken up a lot of leap slam, which I'm sure gets me into trouble, but I find it more fun than sitting back and slamming the ground in one spot all the time.

And of course I have more fun when I'm playing with my comrades, which isn't that often. I haven't tried any pick up groups yet, as I'm not really sure how to deal with that, and I'm not really comfortable with it until I've got some idea what I'm doing.

P.S. I've also heard D3 has improved of late, but haven't had the inclination to check it out again as my friends aren't there. Any word on it?

My friends and I found this game a few weekends ago and are throughly enjoying it.  I'm a Tank right now using the Sweep skill a lot.  

RE: Builds: I found that you need to progress fairly far in Act 1 before you find some good gems to add on to your sockets.
