I saw you, folks, mentioned how mighty GOG let you play the game with crippled (to lossy MP3) music just for lousy 6 bucks. (For example for $6.5 I bought Two Worlds dilogy on Steam.) Out of curiosity I took my ancient CDs from bookshelf to check what's up. 1. Traditionally I created disk images with ImgBurn. As Play disk is "mixed" CD (data+audio) you need to make mixed image (bin/cue), iso is not enough. 2. I mounted Install disk with Daemon Tools Lite and ran Setup. Damned Install Shield's setup refused to do anything, silently sitting in Tasks waiting for some event. 3. OK. I mounted the disk on WinXP on VirualBox. Setup gladly installed the game. 4. I copied game's folder to "real" system. 5. I exported registry branch for the game to "real" system. 6. I edited the .reg file with Notepad correcting paths and drive letters. 7. I imported the file by double-clicking. 8. I mounted Play disk and launched the game. And it ran with all sound and music. That's it. -- Andrew Rybenkov

Consider it as game puzzle ;) Most time is consumed by creating disk images, but personally I do it anyway to backup my CDs/DVDs. Other steps - just few minutes. -- Andrew Rybenkov

I don't think your solution is going to get my retail copy of might and magic 7 to *run*. I don't care about the CD Audio. I never get far enough to hear it! It crashes to desktop before the first game screen ever appears. No matter what patch I install. No matter what compatibility mode I set the exe to. No matter what stupid dumb trick I tried from googling the problem. Trust me, the game is one stubborn son of a bitch on my computer. On top of that, I am not very familiar with the software you mention. So even if I am wrong, and your instructions will get the game running, it will take *me* more then a few minutes. For what GOG is asking for a completely working, trouble-free version, non-DRM version of the game, well, thanks... but no thanks.

Hmm, what is your video card? HD5770, Catalyst 11.3, Win7-32 here. -- Andrew Rybenkov
