I saw this referenced in another thread and checked it out. A Diablo III-style game with slightly different mechanics. So far it's pretty good but a slow beginning as I build my character. A free sign-up on the website gets you the download to run it - fairly large and somewhat lengthy depending on your hardware (20 - 40 min to get up and running on my now-aged Core2 2.4/4GB/HD6970). I guess it's been up & running since January. Online, but you can play single player or with a party. It's all free, so who's checking this out? http://www.pathofexile.com regards, ======= fredman =======

It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy... Oh yeah -- Andrew Rybenkov

At least it is on hardcore play. The default play mode is abit Monty Haul for my tastes. But Hardcore has hooked me and my son both. Artwork is impressive. Areas are challenging. Skill tree is extremely large and varied. In Diablo II I started in a pretty zone and worked my way deeper and deeper into ugly ones. This game is the other way around so far. And I love the business model they have chosen so far. You can use real money to buy extras but nothing that is game-breaking. Just visuals like a glow for your weapons, or a do-nothing pet, or extra storage. Also for a major contribution you can design new things into the game for everyone. Things I dont like (but havent chased me off) are no camera controls, and no gender control. The Ranger and Witch are females. Im forcing my Shadow character into a combo archer/mage version because I dont particularly like playing females. Luckily the way they do the skill tree I can do that. Gandalf Parker
