Where's my Army ? - A POOL OF RADIANCE question (not DS I for once !!!)

(I seem to recall someone asking something similar
to this a week or two ago, but I can't remember
what was said :) )

I have got to the stage in Pool of Radiance where
you launch an attack on the Castle itself. I lead
a rather successful capture of Stojanow Gate, which
now lies in Friendly hands. I then returned briefly
to civilised Phlan to collect my reward and freshen
up, and was told to assist in storming the castle
itself.

On arriving there, however, there seemed to be no
sign in the fights or the text that an army was
in the process of attacking the castle. I shrugged
my shoulders and continued clearing the area alone,
thinking this was what I had to do. However, having
completely cleared the perimeter and then the inside
of the castle, it still seems well and truly in enemy
hands. On my travels, I freed both the Mage and Cadorna,
who then said he'd join us and help us, (but his name
never appeared on the list, and I only had 6 PC's and
1 NPC on my list, leaving space for one more), and killed
the man impersonating Tyranthraxus.

I've double checked the castle rooms and perimeter -
those guards which step out and ask who sent you
are still appearing, no matter how many times I
pop into their rooms afterwards and kill them.
I have bluffed my way through all guard encounters,
ie when the alarm is sounding and you get stopped,
and many other encounters, after which the rooms
containing the monsters I bluffed now seem to be
empty.

Civilised Phlan refuses to recognise my efforts
so far, and I still need to quote the password
to enter the castle. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ?

p.s. Before this, the only mission I was never
able to finish was the Cadorna Textile
House - I never found the treasure there !
At the time, I killed the goblin priest
(who often still seems to be there when
I go back !) but she obviously didn't have
the treasure, as going to Cadorna's room
in New Phlan afterwards reveals no response,
My party was 8 strong at the time, and the
"faithful servant" was unable to join the
party. He is now gone. Could this earlier
problem be the cause of my above problem
     with storming the castle ?

I didn't see it. Doesn't mean it wasn't there, though.

Note that at this point these games hadn't gotten sophisticated
enough for logical plot consequences such as this. :)

You didn't kill Cadorna? You get a reward for offing him.

Hmm, let me think . . . maybe you didn't kill the T-man? :)

I don't remember if it was the room containing the mage or
the one containing the fake Tyranthraxus, but in one of the
very large rooms, turn right immediately after entering and
walk through the wall. Then start checking for secret doors,
and _don't_ open the trapdoor.

No. I have never finished this mission either, nor have I ever
found that Skullcrusher guy whose name appears on the note. I have,
however, beaten the game several times. Go back and kill Tyranthraxus.
All your problems (except that one) will resolve themselves.

Samuel Stinson to the list:

Hello. Here is my reply (some nineteen years late).

You need to go back and kill the bronze dragon in the castle.

If you still have the program loaded on your PC, please feel free to open that window and finish the game. ;)

Regards,

Samuel
