Ultima 8, Best Weapon?

Just curious, does anybody know if any of the magic weapons is
superior? What are your preferences? I've been using the Hammer, and
I found that it worked much better than Slayer. I've just visited the
Pit of Death, but I have yet to try out the other three weapons. I'm
trying to decide which one or two to stick with. Is the effectiveness
of a weapon related to your stats (ie: Hammer of STRENGTH)?

I preferred using Flame Sting myself during the latter stages of the
game, but unfortunately you can't get it until the Sorcerer's test (of
course, you could nab it from that room in the Pit of Death too :)).
After I got it, I never used another weapon. The nice thing about Flame
Sting is that it'll kill skeletons *permanently*!

The only other magical weapon really worth getting is Deceiver, since it
adds to your armor points. It's a pain in the rear to get, but I got it
*early* on, so I could use it most of the game (get it as soon as you get
to Stone Cove--it's the best weapon until you can get Flame Sting).

BTW, the Hammer of Strength doesn't depend on your strength in order to
be useful--however, it *does* seem to increase your strength attribute if
you use it often (sometimes when I needed to carry more in my pack I'd
increase my strength a bit by attacking ghouls with the hammer--your
strength should go up pretty quickly).

Far and away the best is FLAME STING!! however you do not find this till
much later in the game.

The best early on depends on your preference. The hammer of strength does
1-19 damage. Slayer on the otherhand does 4-14 points but has the added
advantage of having a 10% chance of a lethal blow. Personlly, I liked
the dagger, Korghin's Fang, which does 7-13 but adds 4 dexterity points
and 1 to armour class. Protector is not bad either as it does 5-17 and
4 pts. to defense dexterity and FIVE points to your armour class.

Hope this helps.
