So far as I can tell, there is NO U.S. >>Gold company around today. >They're a wholly owned subsidiary, but still have their own building >where they produce games, handle their own customer support, etc... Ok - but they are still owned by EA. And since the Origin of today, based on their last few releases, is not even a glimmer of what they formerly were before their acquisition, then this may tell you that it is NOT the same Origin. Which means that Origin is gone but in name, isn't it? How else can you account for a company with such a great track record and whose almost EVERY game being a great piece of gaming to have become such a poor example of what NOT to do when making a game? >> And besides all that, what would be the point of buying a CD-ROM which >>ou would only have very few games for? It may all come on CD-ROM, but excluding odds, how much of that WILL be good - ie worth buying a CD-ROM for? (just as the WC's made the purchase of a sound card essential... or is that a faster machine? I forget). >> WC3 might change that, but I am willing to bet NOT. Privateer, well, it wasn't done by Chris Roberts. As I have said elsewhere, WC-Armada has the best VGA space combat engine I have yet seen... not much to compare to WC2's. Armada was also touted to be a decent strategy game alongside their multiplayer options... I would call those "new features not found in WC2. While their multiplayer bit was not a failure, their strategy bit was. A great disappointment. And lets not even start with Armada, eh? And didn't Privateer have "A Chris Roberts game" in its credits? >I have faith that WC3 will be a good game. I sincerely hope you are correct. >> Except for System Shock which is done "ex-house" by Looking Glass >>is there ANY game Origin has made recently which is NOT crap according to most >>people's opinion? >Most people think Armada has an excellent multiplayer mode, FWIW. And that's all. Should have been released as some kind of add-on rather than separately, IMO. >>efficient code CAN be written: look what they did with the Strike Commander CD, >Sure, and it came out eight to twelve months after the original game, if >memory serves. Sure - but they finally DID improve upon their release, didn't they? Though it should have come out like that in the first place, they did not abandon their customers and did come up trumps in the end. - Falcon
