Although DX12 games are starting to emerge now, I wouldn't disagree with this statement as written. A year sounds about right. I would however add that there is no practical reason to defer an inevitable upgrade to Windows 10 for a year either. Nothing is really gained at this point by staying on Windows 7-8. >And the other ??good?? thing about Win10 is that it is Microsoft's >ultimate data-mining tool. >The old adage "There is no such thing as a free lunch" rings so true >here. You did not expect a "free upgrade" from Microsoft without >$lucrative$ elements embedded (to MS and interested 3rd-parties), did >you ?? The old adage damned if you do and damned if you don't rings true here too. People don't complain much when being data mined by Google (or I should say the company previously known as Google since they changed their name to Alphabet Inc.), and continue to use their search engine and browser. People extol the virtues of "open-source" without realizing that pretty much all open source projects eventually end up either getting purchased by some "evil" profit-seeking entity or fall into the "data-mining ad-driven" category sooner or later. Microsoft is modifying their business model to address the complaints of whining users. But, there's another adage that rings true: "wherever you go, there you are". The whiners will be whiners no matter what OS they use. I try to push as many folks as can toward Linux but I keep seeing them coming running the other way, crying with wet diapers about their failed experiment. The other option is to feed the Apple machine (literally), and get free OS updates which increasingly make your existing hardware obsolete, so you can buy more overpriced proprietary hardware. None of which play games reasonably well, coincidentally.
