Most of the games that are third-person and involve button mashing
benefit hugely from this. Shadow of Morder is such that it's not just
a matter of spamming the buttons (thankfully), but to fight well you
need counter-moves, etc. which lend themselves better to the
controller layout.

If the controller you tried before was something like an inexpensive
aftermarket pad, you'll probably have a much better reaction to the
XBox controller. Some of the aftermarket controllers (even from
Logitech, etc) do not work as well. I think Razer is the only one
that makes a true alternative to the real thing, and I used to have
one of those (they are now called the Sabertooth but the original was
called the Onza), and it started having problems after a couple of
years. The regular Xbox controllers are cheaper and IMO better
overall.

Once you start playing with one in the games that really require it,
things will begin to make more sense. In some games you might switch
between keyboard+mouse and controller. I do that in GTA V. It drives
surprisingly well with k+m, but in choppers and planes I always reach
for the controller.

In some games that ask you to use __ and __ and ___ (fill in the blank
with three random keys of your choosing) to perform a certain action,
it will all make more sense when you see the same represented as Xbox
buttons.

Some of these games have controller input designed in a way that it is
dependent on physical placement of the buttons on the controller,
control schemes that seem poorly thought out when translated to a
standard WASD layout, and become an even bigger nightmare for users
like me who don't use WASD but remap their keys.

The controller gives you a way to at least play and evaluate the game
as it was meant to be played as opposed to getting pissed about poor
control input schemes.

It doesn't solve the fact that a lot of these games are made for
consoles (what I see as a problem in itself), it just gives you a nice
workaround for it.
