Quake 2 - Cannot Load Saved Games HELP

RE: Quake 2 (Steam) on WinXP

If I try to load a saved game I get a console message....
"Quake 2: Error Local Map Version Differs From Server"....
and the game stops.  This only happens when I boot my rig the next
day.  There seems to be no problem reloading saved games on the same
session.

I play ONLY single-player.

I noted that there is other console text, example:

GL_Ext_Shared_Texture_Palette not found


I Googled this error and found many posts but no solutions, also no
one on Steam Discussions has replied yet.


Any fixes?
