I have the Risen DVD version, but because of trouble with the DVD
security and reading the DVD I downloaded the Steam version. Therefore
I've decided to post a new comments on the game.
GAME:
I do like Risen but it is the most complex and frustrating
RPG/Adventure game I've played.
It is much, much too easy to 'break' a quest just by doing things in
the wrong order. The game is open-world but Deepsilver did not think
about in the open-world environment a player could do quests in an
unexpected order.
At present there are quests that you must do step-C before step-D, or
to do separate quest first, but ALLOWS a player to do step-D first or
not even do a required separate quest.
Many other games have linked quests, but they do not allow players to
even start a quest if another quest is required first, AND do not
allow player to do a quest-step if another is required first (some
give you a message like 'You need to see NPC-name).
Example: I cannot complete the quest "Test of the Masters" because I
cannot talk to a specific NPC. There are other players that have this
problem with this quest (found via forums). There are other quests
that can get broken.
SETTINGS:
(My Rig = WinXP SP3, GeForce 7900GS 250mb)
Got Risen to run very stable and with good video by changing some
settings as suggested by several WEB sites.
1) [Options][Performance] Turn OFF Depth of Field
2) [Options][Performance] Set Anisotropic to 2X
(default is 8X) which improved stability
3) Using "nVidia Inspector" [Risen] enabled Antialiasing
(this really improved video)
Antialiasing - Gamma correction = ON
Antialiasing - Line gamma = Enabled
Antialiasing - Mode = Override any application setting
Antialiasing - Setting = 2x (2x Multisampling)
Antialiasing - Transparency Multisampling = Enabled
